UPDATE: Snow And Rain Heading For N.B.

Another late fall storm is expected to bring a mixed bag of weather to much of New Brunswick this weekend.

Jill Maepea, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, said central and northern regions could see 15 to 20 centimetres of snow.

“The snow is expected to begin Saturday evening and it’s gonna continue most of Sunday,” said Maepea. “It will ease a little bit during the day on Sunday but we have another little bit of a secondary burst that’ll come through later on in the day on Sunday.”

Areas like Saint John, St. Stephen, Sussex and Moncton could see a few centimetres of snow at the start, but most of the precipitation will fall as rain, she said.

Maepea said there is also a risk of ice pellets or freezing rain for communities along the rain-snow line.

“Right now, we’re expecting it probably to run anywhere from Fredericton to possibly the Richibucto area,” she said. “It could go as far south as Moncton.”

The rain-snow line may shift slightly as the system comes closer to the province, said Maepea.

Strong winds gusting to 60 kilometres per hour could also create blowing snow, said the national weather agency.

Maepea said below-normal temperatures are expected to move in behind the system.
