A Halifax woman is facing charges under the Animal Protection Act.

The Nova Scotia SPCA says its inspectors received three animal cruelty complaints from New Minas, Truro and Halifax Regional Municipality between July 6, 2020 and April 19, 2021 which they believe involve the same suspect.

The SPCA says four animals were rescued from "immediate distress and cruelty."

On May 29, 26-year-old Anna Yurkiw was arrested and charged with two counts of permitting an animal to be in distress by abandonment and one count of causing an animal to be in distress.

Yurkiw has been released on the condition she not to own, possess, or be in the presence of animals.

She is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court on July 12, 2021.

Acts of animal cruelty can be reported confidentially to the SPCA online, by e-mailing animals@spcans.ca or by calling 1-888-703-7722.
