A cheque for $1,000 dollars was donated to help out local the local music community.

Lynn Hindy owns Universal Corporate Wear on Hamlyn Road in St. John’s. She saw the toll the pandemic has taken on local musicians and decided to do her part to help out. She created a t-shirt logo “Music Matters” that incorporates notes from the Ode to Newfoundland, and started selling the merchandise.

Five dollars from each of those sales was donated to MusicNL for a total of $1,000.

She says they knew musicians weren’t getting any gigs and wanted to find a way to help.

“This is what we went with because this is what we know,” says Hindy.

Executive Director for MusicNL Rhonda Tulk-Lane says that money is already being put to use.

She says it’s been put directly towards hiring artists for summer festivals and events like Live on the Lawn in Brigus and the Woody Island Resort.
