ST. JOHN'S, N.L. —

Going out of their way not to wade into the quagmire of a recent online stunt, Premier Andrew Furey and Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Janice Fitzgerald nonetheless emphasized Monday that Newfoundlanders and Labradorians are expected to wear non-medical masks indoors barring legitimate health reasons.

Pressed on what is expected of businesses faced with someone refusing to wear a mask, Furey said that’s entirely up to the owner.

“We can’t speak to individual businesses and how they approach their clientele,” he said.

Fitzgerald offered more broad and practical advice in her opening comments during Monday’s COVID-19 live briefing.
