Feds to spend on P.E.I. pandemic facility

The federal government today announced funding for a new 12,000-square-foot climate-controlled warehouse for Charlottetown that will serve as a storage space for Health PEI’s pandemic readiness supplies as well as storage of the National Emergency Stockpile System. Ottawa is allocating $2.4 million towards the project, 80 per cent of the cost. The P.E.I. Department of Transportation and Infrastructure will also use the facility as permanent storage for furniture inventories.

ViveRe expanded holdings in past year

Nova Scotia-based ViveRE Communities Inc. today announced a dividend of .05 cents per common share for the quarter ending March 31, 2021. Over the past year the firm, which provides housing for the 55-plus market, has increased its portfolio of properties from four buildings and 119 units to 19 buildings and 530 units and closed its first acquisition in Ontario.

Lexology today posted an article from WeirFoulds LLP on contract strategies for requests for proposals in the construction industry. The article is titled Strategic Procurement – Drawbacks of Using Nonnegotiable Supplementary Conditions in RFPs and states, “Owners (and contractors) need to appreciate the associated drawbacks and ensure the supplementary conditions and RFP are carefully drafted and vetted to avoid unintended consequences.”

Governments support Moncton water upgrades

This morning the federal government also announced funding for improvements to the potable water system in Moncton, N.B. The upgrades will use technology to remove toxins that blue-green algae can produce in water systems. The project involves researching and testing water treatment processes that will remove toxins, as well as implementing the improvements. The Government of Canada is spending $8.8 million on the project, the Government of New Brunswick is providing $7.3 million, and the City of Moncton is contributing $5.8 million.
